Building the Future: Highlights from Our Open Source Realtime AI Hackathon

Last October marked a milestone for our developer community as over 500 developers gathered both in San Francisco and remotely worldwide for our Open Source Conversational & Multi-modal AI Hackathon. Teams spent 48 intense hours pushing the boundaries of real-time AI technology, creating everything from intelligent shopping assistants to AI-powered music creators.

The event was made possible thanks to our partners and sponsors: Cartesia, Google Cloud, Oracle, Coval, Pipecat, Product Hunt, Tavus, and Vapi. These partners provided the tools, infrastructure, and support that enabled participants to build innovative real-time AI applications.

Winner Spotlights

First place SF winner Christoph Heike shared his experience building Cruzy

I liked the idea of combining a real-time video and voice AI with navigation. Tavus, Daily and Mapbox provided excellent interfaces for this. Road trips can be monotonous at times, so I thought, why not create an assistant that makes the journey smoother and more entertaining?

Looking ahead

In just 48 hours, 500+ developers showed us what's possible when you combine open source tools, real-time AI, and creative vision.

Teams made effective use of the available tools - combining Daily, Pipecat, and our partner's infrastructure and platforms to build working prototypes. Many of these projects continue to be developed, with teams contributing improvements back to the core frameworks and building out their ideas further.

We're looking forward to our next community event - follow us on Twitter or join our Discord to stay updated.
